The Week

It was a non-stop week this past week. We started off with strawberry picking bright and early Monday morning. Unfortunately the rain this year has cut the strawberry season short. So, after a little over an hour at the farm with Joshua, Mira, Stephanie, Staci and myself picking we barely had enough berries for one pie. We still had fun though and both Joshua and Mira loved the freedom of running up and down the rows of strawberries. We came home and had fresh berries and ice cream. We swam Monday afternoon and enjoyed a fresh pie after dinner. No jam this year though :-(

Tuesday, Joshua had a play date and picnic with his friends from preschool last year. It was another fun and busy morning. Nice to connect with other moms and kids. We will be trying a play date once a month.

Wednesday was errand day and we ran to BJ's. It is always a challenge to do major shopping with the kids even when they are well behaved. I came home pooped and in a bad mood but we had lunch, a swim and naps and then headed out to the farm to pick up our veggies for the week. For movie night we borrowed Alice in Wonderland from Howard & Cyndi's movie collection. Since Joshua loves any movie he enjoyed this one. Mira ended up ready for bed half way through. These long days are tough!

Thursday was Jason's picnic at work. He was able to take us back to the area where he works which is usually restricted. Joshua was so excited to see everything: the tanks and missiles on the way in, the robots that daddy builds, the deer along the way. We had a delicious picnic with Jason's coworkers in spite of the torrential rains. Mira was her usual flirty self and had the best time waving bye bye, blowing kisses, etc.

Friday, Jill arrived the night before and we all went out together while Jason had an eye appointment and we ran errands for the BBQ on Saturday. We swam Friday afternoon after naps. The water was cold but everyone got in. Mira likes doing 'humpty dumpty' and 'falling' in from the side. I will probably put her under soon. Joshua is also 'jumping' in and is going under with our help and not freaking out. He has come such a long way!

Saturday, was VERY rainy and stormy but we got things together and had a wonderful cookout with friends, Amy and Jill. There were about 16 kids (13 were 4 and under) and about 14 adults. The weather cleared up, poured and then cleared up long enough to cook the burgers outside. We made vanilla ice cream (topping it later), visited, ate and had lots of fun. Joshua freaked out with all the people in the house but then when he warmed up had a great time playing with JR and the other kids. Mira wondered around being her usual social self.

Today is father's day and Joshua took Jason on the Skip Jack Martha Lewis for a boat ride. Both of them had lots of fun. Joshua was excited about everything and pointing out all the sites. Mira and I took a nap then met them later to play at the playground. Later today we will enjoy tacos - daddy's request. It is gorgeous and not rainy! So nice :-)

We had a few friends and family over for a BBQ yesterday. Aunt Jill made her way down to visit.

Swimming

I took the kids swimming yesterday and today. Yesterday Joshua took a few minutes and then he was in paddling around like a fish. What a difference! It is great to see him so comfortable in the water. Mira thought it was too cold yesterday but today, after warming up to the water, she was even more comfortable than Joshua. She did not want to get out and go home even though both of them had chattering teeth and blue limbs...

It is going to be a great summer!

Weekend with Memaw & Grandad

Joshua and Mira spent the weekend with Memaw and Grandad all by themselves while we went away for a little R&R. They did great! I am not sure who was keeping up with who. They went to the library story time, out to eat and play at Chick-Fil-A and play at the playground. They ate lots of yummy food: spaghetti, pancakes, yogurt, strawberries and ice cream. Memaw came with 'super cape' in hand for Joshua on Thursday. He loves it and is taking it everywhere with him.

We returned from our travels with a large reeses peanut/peanut butter cup for Joshua and a little spinning top. He was so excited about both. Both of them were very happy to see us just as we were them when we returned yesterday.

Now it is back to the normal routine with hopefully a little more bounce in our steps!
